Grand Theft Auto 6 Trailer Breakdown: Rockstar Games Unveils First Female Protagonist

Rockstar Games finally released the long-awaited trailer for Grand Theft Auto 6 on Tuesday, and as expected, the trailer quickly went viral on social media platforms such as YouTube. Since being posted on Rockstar Games’ official YouTube channel, the video has been viewed over 11 million times in a 2-hour window.

The GTA 6 trailer confirms several leaks circulating around the open-world game, and a subsequent press release from Rockstar Games revealed that the game is set to release in 2025 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and Series S. However, there is no update on when or if the game will come to PC, leaving many PC gaming enthusiasts disappointed.

Confirming that the upcoming game’s trailer has indeed leaked, Rockstar Games addressed the issue on Twitter, stating, “Our trailer has leaked, so please check out the real thing on YouTube.”

Following the viral GTA 6 gameplay videos on TikTok, the leaked trailer reveals glimpses of the highly anticipated gameplay and map, causing excitement within the gaming community.

The trailer introduces the series’ first female protagonist, Lucia, seen initially in a jail in the trailer’s opening scenes. Later in the video, Lucia and her partner take on Bonnie and Clyde-style outlaws in Vice City.

In a statement about GTA 6, Rockstar Games mentioned, “Grand Theft Auto VI takes us to the state of Leonida, home to the rain-soaked streets of Vice City and the most extensive and detailed development in the Grand Theft Auto series to date.”

According to Bloomberg’s report, Rockstar Games’ parent company, Take-Two Interactive, previously stated that it hopes the game will generate $8 billion in net bookings by 2025. The Grand Theft Auto series, started in 1997, has sold over 400 million units, with the last installment released in 2013. The anticipation for GTA 6 among the loyal fan base has been building over a decade.

Citing CNBC, GTA 5 is currently the second-best-selling video game to date, with over 190 million copies sold worldwide, surpassed only by Microsoft’s Minecraft, which has sold over 300 million copies.
